WHO WE ARE
A Center for Independent Living (CIL) is an organization that encourages people with disabilities to make their own choices and to take more initiative and control over their lives. Center for Independent Living of South Jersey, Inc. (CILSJ), is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded over 30 years ago. We are located in Gloucester County, NJ and we serve persons with disabilities and their families located in both Camden and Gloucester Counties, minus Camden City, NJ which is serviced by the Camden City Independent Living Center (CCILC). WHAT WE DO
Our mission is to provide Five Core Activities:

Information and Referral – CILSJ helps connect to people to necessary programs and services in the community.

Peer Support – CILSJ provides opportunities for individuals to support each other in facing challenges related to their disabilities.

Individual and Group Advocacy – CILSJ provides individual advocacy, in which we support people in obtaining benefits or services. CILSJ also contacts legislators to let them know that we support/protest bills that will affect the lives of people who have disabilities. CILSJ also promotes understanding of independent living and disability issues.

Independent Living Skills Training – The center assists people with disabilities to develop skills that enhance independence.

Facilitating Transition – Moving from institutional living back to the community requires a variety of information, such as: finding housing, accessing community resources, planning lifestyles, and vocational goals.
